All of Neuve products are handmade in small batches here in Perth, Western Australia. Although every effort is made to ensure consistency, there may be some colour variances or slight imperfections. Our wax is made from a premium blend of soy beans which are 100% vegan, and therefore you may notice small blemishes on the side or surface of your candle. This, however, does not affect the quality and performance of the candle.
Your First Burn
When you light your candle for the first time, it is best to keep it lit for 2 to 3 hours or until the wax pool reaches the edges of the vessel. This creates a memory for future burns and avoid tunnelling.
Burn Time
Do not let your candle burn for more than 4 hours at a time as this can cause the flame to become too large and unstable.
Trim Your Wick
Always trim your wick to 6mm in between every burn. By trimming the wick, it prevents black soot which might dirty your candle jar and you will get the most burn time out of your candle!
Burn Space & Scent Throw
Whenever burning a candle, always make sure to place it in a safe area away from flammable items and keep away from windy spaces. Drafts can decrease burn time, cause uneven burning, smoking and diminished scent throw.
Clean Wax and Store Safely
Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times. Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place. Avoid direct sunlight or harsh indoor lighting, such as spotlights.
Don’t Burn All The Way Down
We strongly advise not to burn your candle when there is 15mm of wax or less remaining in the jar as the flame needs a solid base of wax to avoid overheating the jar and potentially causing it to break.
Treat with Caution
Candles involve a naked flame and they must be treated with caution. To prevent fire and serious injury, burn your candle within sight and never leave a candle burning unattended or in reach of children and pets.

What are Neuve candles made of?
Our candles are made using our own formulated premium blend of soy wax, which are free from palm contents. They are delicately scented with locally sourced, IFRA (International Fragrance Association) approved and certified fragrance oils.
And yes, we are 100% vegan and cruelty free.
Why do you choose soy blend wax?
Soy wax is derived from soybean oil which are all natural vegan ingredients. These oils are put through a process called the hydrogenation process to make it solid at room temperature and turned it into the wax we use everyday at our Perth studio. This type of wax is preferred and chosen by us as they are a renewable and biodegradable alternative to paraffin wax.
Additionally, soy wax gives our candles a gorgeous creamy finish and has a much slower burn rate which allows you to enjoy our candles for longer! And did you know they can easily be cleaned with hot soapy water as soy wax have a low melting point?
Are Neuve candles scented using fragrance oils or essential oils?
During our months of research, we thought about using essential oils to scent our candles because of the idea of it being natural.
However, we couldn't justify using essential oils for our candles as they generally have a poorer scent throw compared to fragrance oils and we would be limited to plant-based scented candles only as they are not as versatile as fragrance oils.
The poor scent throw is caused by essential oils degrading when being exposed to heat which means that it loses its aromatherapy properties. Some essential oils can also become toxic when burned. For these reasons, we decided to avoid scenting our candles with essential oils.
Are fragrance oils not good for your health because it's synthetic?
Fragrance oils are synthetic oils developed for their scent and they are commonly used in home fragrances and body products.
At Neuve, we ensure that all of our premium fragrances are sourced from verified suppliers and certified by the IFRA (International Fragrance Association), which of course means that they are free from the nasties such as parabens and phthalates, and completely safe.
Our customers never had any issues with headaches or migraines as we select our fragrance oils very carefully. Feel free to check out our product reviews on our website.
Why do Neuve candle wicks look different than what I've seen at most places/stores?
We use only 100% Eco-Luxe Cross Wood Wicks which are completely lead-free for our candles. The wicks you see in stores are probably cotton wicks which are beautiful in their own ways and perfectly fine to be used.
The reason why we choose cross wood wicks is because we find that it provides a more unique burning experience through the way it burns and its soft crackling sound.
Burning one of our candles is like sitting in a scented room next to a fireplace!
What do I do with the decorations on my Neuve candle? Will they catch fire and are they edible?
As delicious as they look, the dried natural flowers and fruits on the decorated candles are not edible and they serve as decorations only. Please do not consume and remove the large pieces as soon as the top layer of candle is melted to avoid catching on fire.
Why does my new candle look like it's 'sweating' or 'frosting' on top or why do some parts of the jar look like they have 'wet spots'?
All of our candles are hand-poured in small batches, so each one is unique. We try our best to keep them all consistent but with our coconut soy wax being completely natural, it is known to 'sweat' (natural oils dissociating from the wax), 'frost' (crystallising as it tries to return to its natural form), shrink (pulling away from the jar which causes 'wet spots') and expand particularly when the temperature or weather changes abruptly.
Fortunately, all of the above are normal with soy-based waxes and they don't affect the quality of the candle, the way it burns or the scent throw.
If you are concerned about the aesthetic of your candle due to 'sweating', you can simply wipe off the excess natural oil with paper towel or tissue. And as a prevention to 'sweating', you can keep the candles away from drafts, direct sunlight and room that vary in temperature.
Why is the surface of my candle bumpy or lumpy after burning?
If you find this happening to your candle, don't worry! It's a tell tale sign that your candle is free from synthetic additives. This occurs because the hot wax is cooling at different rates.
Why does my candle have black residue inside the jar?
The black residue is also known as 'soot' which are unburned carbon particles. They are a result of incomplete combustion due to liquid wax being drawn by the wick to the flame faster than it can be burned, and it happens with all candles, no matter what type of wax it is.
This usually occurs when the flame is too big and can be avoided by making sure the wick is trimmed to 6mm before each burn. By doing this, you are extending the life of your candle while ensuring a clean and even burn. The black residue can be wiped off with a damp cloth.
Why is it that only the centre of the candle, right around the wick, melts and burns down?
The term used to describe that is 'candle tunneling'. It occurs when the candle is not lit long enough until the wax pool reaches the edges of the vessel during its first burn.
This can be prevented by following our Candle Care page and fixed by using the 'aluminium foil method'. A demonstration to fix candle tunneling is shown here.
How do I look after my candle and ensure that I'm burning and storing it correctly?
See our Candle Care page or refer to the safety sticker under your candle.
